This spring, moving into summer, has felt... layered. It could be the energy in the world, the weight of the news, or the ache of trying to balance what matters to us with the overwhelm of doing it all. I've been watching, listening, and noticing something beautiful amid it all—something subtle and powerful happening at my booth during art shows.
People are being pulled toward blue and orange crystals.
At first glance, they're the perfect summer shades—evoking water and sunshine, ocean breezes and warm getaways. But lately, even people who swear by neutrals, greens, or purples are gravitating toward these bright, bold stones. They'll tell me, "This isn't usually my color," then hold it tighter, like something just clicked inside them.
And that's the magic: sometimes, your energy knows before your mind does.
The Chakras at Play: Throat and Sacral
Blue stones often support the Throat Chakra—your energetic center of communication, truth, and expression. It lives in your neck area and governs how freely and authentically you speak, listen, and align with your personal truth.
Orange stones connect to the Sacral Chakra, your creative wellspring of emotion, sensuality, and joy. Located in the lower belly, where we hold both pleasure and pain, it is the place that dances between connection and creation.
Here's a glimpse of what those energy centers can feel like:
When the Throat Chakra is underactive, you might hesitate to speak up, struggle to express your needs, or shrink back out of fear or self-doubt. You may feel silenced—by others or even your inner critic.
When it's balanced, communication feels natural and empowering. You can speak your truth clearly and honestly and are just as capable of truly listening to others.
But when this chakra becomes overactive, you might talk over others, dominate conversations, or speak with sharpness or arrogance rather than clarity and compassion.
The Sacral Chakra, on the other hand, governs your emotional flow, creativity, and pleasure. When it's underactive, you may feel disconnected, creatively blocked, emotionally numb, or withdrawn from the people and passions that usually bring joy.
A balanced sacral chakra brings a sense of vitality—you feel expressive, emotionally fluid, inspired, and open to giving and receiving pleasure in all its forms.
Suppose it swings too far into overactivity, though. In that case, it can show up as emotional overwhelm, mood swings, or seeking comfort and connection through overindulgence or codependency.
We often seek balance when we're out of alignment, but I believe our subconscious energy knows what we need even when we are not aware at the moment. That's why some crystals catch our eye and won't let go, even when they're not our "usual" go-to item.
What My Energy's Whispering Lately
Personally, I've felt this pull deeply. As I ease back into advocacy and community organizing (hello, whole left foot back in the waters, skip that toe-ish), I find myself swinging between showing up and shutting down. After a long, hard stare into the world's heaviness, I need color, laughter, and little reminders of joy and light.
And that's what these crystals are for me—reminders, anchors, quiet cheerleaders in my pocket, on my wrist, neck, and ears, and placed in heavily used spaces.
Current companions:
Aquamarine
A crystal of courage, clarity, and calm. It soothes frayed nerves and helps speak truth gently and confidently—especially when stepping back into emotionally charged spaces.
Larimar
Like a tropical breeze for the soul, larimar cools hot emotions, inspires relaxation, and supports healing conversations—especially with yourself.
When I Need the Fire: My current combo-
- Carnelian: Bold, energizing, and ready to fan your inner flame. Great for action and confidence.
- Citrine: A sunshine crystal that uplifts the spirit, invites abundance, and clears the mental fog.
- Spessartine Garnet: Stimulates creativity and aligns it with grounded passion—like fuel for your dreams.
- Fire Opal: Lights up passion, playfulness, and spontaneity. It brings energy and excitement back to your space.
- Ruby: Fierce love and leadership. Ruby protects the heart and helps you own your power unapologetically.
Together, this fiery mix radiates joy, motivation, and divine momentum. I lean into it when I'm fired up about something and want to stay rooted in purpose and possibility.
